Target problem

The presence of insufficient safe learning spaces, amenities and utilities that could provide a supportive atmosphere &  environment for children to access their right to quality education, intellectual development, and well balanced nutritious food in Dandora Slums, Njiru Sub County-Nairobi, Kenya, is an on-going constraint for the local target community, and specifically children. Badili Educational Centre is a response to this problem, one that the school is still struggling to overcome as an institution, and that informs the need for the Construction, Renovation and Refurbishment Project.

Research Centers

Badili Education Centre has served the community since 2009 on a non-profit basis, depending on the little community participation in resources, well-wishers and partners. Though initially successful, the ever increasing population of children in Njiru Sub-County has meant the development of a lot of challenges, especially where the children cannot be turned back from being accommodated into the school, in spite of its not-for-profit status, and limited resources.

However, in spite of these challenges, the CENTRE has made some modest milestones:

  • Secured  semi-permanent  learning  safe space for 300 children, enabling the target beneficiaries to access education support services each academic year.(11 classrooms,1office,1 kitchen,5 washrooms and 1 boys’ urinal)
  • Procurement of basic furniture and teaching aids to enable the provision of academic training services to an average of 150 children every academic year.
  • Provided writing and reading aids to 150 pupils each academic year.
  • Overseen the graduation of pupils from Badili Educational Centre ECD to upper primary schools, and to Secondary School level ensuring non-interruption of academic and intellectual growth.
  • Providing one balanced, hot lunch meal to 150 children who have passed through the Badili Educational Centre’s programs, each academic year.
  • Provided rehabilitation and reintegration of 24 children from street families residing at the Dandora dumpsite, back to normal academic education and social life.
  • Been a source of income and livelihood for families depended on the teaching and non-teaching staff( 9 teachers,3 support staff) from 2009 to date, which has enabled them to meet their basic needs.
  • Participation in many child –oriented programs sponsored by the government, other Non-Profit organizations and education stakeholders in Njiru Sub-County, and Nairobi County.
